The Living First Language Platform Company Pty Ltd (LFLP) is committed to protecting the privacy and security of your personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

This policy applies to users of our websites, and others who interact with us.

The purpose of this policy is to tell you:

  • what kinds of information we may collect and hold;

  • how we collect that information;

  • how we may use that information;

  • why we collect, hold, and use that information;

  • whether we disclose that information to anyone; and

  • how you can access or correct that information

2. Personal information

Personal information is any information or opinion (recorded in any form), whether true or not, about an individual who is reasonably identifiable.

3. Specific digital products (as mentioned in this policy)

3.1. Living Frist Language Platform

The Living First Language Platform is a digital solution that harnesses technology and empowers First Language speakers to collate, organise and share language and literacy knowledge in Indigenous Languages.

3.2. Feed the Monster apps

Feed the Monster is an open source educational game framework that help children learn to read. Children collect and grow pet monsters while learning reading fundamentals like letter names and sounds. LFLP and the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF) have co-developed Feed the Monsters apps in Indigenous First Languages.

This includes:

  • Malpanya mai uwa (Pitjantjatjara) app

  • Arranji yukurnukku jinta (Warumungu) app

  • Magur disisir (Erub) app

4. Information we collect and hold

4.1 Living First Language Platform

We may collect and hold personal information.  This information may include:

  • personal details including names, address or location, date of birth, employment status, community group, indigeneity, gender, languages spoken, experience and qualifications, telephone numbers, fax numbers, addresses and email addresses;

  • community, organisation or school details, including name, ABN/ACN, address or location, telephone numbers, fax numbers and email addresses; and

  • financial details including banking details, credit card details and other EFT details.

We also collect other information and content that you provide to us, which may include letters, words, stories, sounds, recordings, songs, photos, pictures, videos, and related metadata.

We may collect information from third parties where those third parties are permitted to provide that information to us or we are otherwise permitted by law to collect that information.

When you browse our website, our internet service provider logs your server (IP) address, country of origin, date and time of your visit, and pages viewed. Our systems may collect information about your browser, operating system, device identifier, mobile network, and other information about the way you use our website. This information is only collected to enhance the website service and experience for visitors.

4.2  Feed The Monster Apps

Our exact data collection changes over time, but we broadly collect two types of data in the Android versions of Feed The Monster Apps :

1.     Anonymised, aggregated usage data like what is tapped or clicked in the app, what level you reach, whether you succeeded on a level or failed, how much time is spent in the app, and what parts of the app you use. This 'usage data' (collected through a tool called Google Firebase) helps us figure out ways to improve the app.

2.     Through the third-party services Google Firebase Analytics, we obtain:

Anonymised usage and analytics data including what avenues a user may have found out about our app, app usage duration, device type and model, and limited demographic information such as country and city data for improvement of our app experience.

We have two reasons for collecting so much information from our apps: first, we want to use it to measure what users are learning and how, so we can personalise learning to make our apps much more effective – eventually, by allowing apps to tailor themselves to each child’s learning stage and style. Second, to help improve our apps and develop new technology for other e-learning apps.

This type of usage data is not collected in the iOS versions of our Feed The Monster Apps.

5. Storage and security of your information

5.1 Living First Language Platform

LFLP will take all reasonable steps to protect your personal information it holds (whether in paper or electronic form) from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, interference, modification or unauthorised disclosure.

Your personal information is stored externally in a secure database that is password protected and only accessible by authorised persons.  Paper documents are securely held in premises which are only accessible to authorised persons.

We will take reasonable steps to delete, destroy or permanently de-identify your personal information if it is no longer required or you request that we do so.

5.2 Feed the Monster Apps

·       Although the Malpa-nya mai uwa (Pitjantjatjara) app uses Firebase, it does not share any information it collects with Google, and Google does not collect any personal identifying information about you. Google Firebase acquires information during app usage which is sent back to Google servers, without any personally identifiable information.

·       We do not store usage data on our servers. As of December 2020, we store detailed usage data - using Google's Firebase service - on Google servers in relation to usage data of Android versions of Feed the Monster. This detailed usage data may contain limited demographic information such as country and city, but it does not include personally identifiable information.
